Intelius Opt Out is easier than before

An important opt out that removes you from multiple sites at once

In the past, removal of personal information from Intelius could only be done after providing a valid picture identification card. Understandably, this made many people reluctant to opt out from the site. Now that the discomfort of providing an official identification card has been alleviated, a different problem has surfaced. Many people have multiple records on the site however the new opt out procedure only allows a single opt out per email address. See the solution in the instructions that follow.

How to Opt Out of Intelius

  1. Click on this link and enter your name to search for your records.
  2. Once you identify a record belonging to you, click “Select and Continue”
  3. Your listing will show up and then enter your email address (twice) and fill in the Captcha code followed by “Continue.”
  4. Check your email a minute or two later and then click on the link in the email from Intelius. The link expires in 24 hours so do it right away. (Check your spam folder if you do not find it in your inbox.)
  5. You will receive a confirmation email of your opt out with a reference number and will need to allow up to 72 hours for the opt out to process.
    • You can check the status of your request by clicking here and inputting your email address and reference number, however, I think it’s safest to go back to the site a few days later to look yourself up to confirm your information has been removed. With this site as well as all other sites you take steps to remove your information from, the only way to confirm it has been removed is to look for yourself. Believe me when I tell you that a confirmation email of removal is not a guarantee that your information is truly gone.
    • If your information is not removed after you receive a final confirmation of removal from Intelius, notify them by email (CUSTSERV[at]intelius.com – replace [at] with @) and provide the confirmation number you received from them.

NOTE: Look up different spellings of your name and also look up maiden names, married names and aliases because often these form separate records, even though there will be some overlap.

What happens if you have more than one record on Intelius that you want to opt out?

Many people have more than one record on Intelius but this site will only allow a single opt out request per email address. If you try to remove a second record,  you will get the message below and you will not be able finalize any opt outs beyond the first one.

Either you can use a different email address for each record, or you can email Intelius (CUSTSERV[at]intelius.com – replace [at] with @) and ask them to manually remove additional records. I prefer contacting Intelius over using multiple email addresses. As with removals from any site, do not assume your information has been removed until you look yourself up and confirm it’s not there.

Here is a link to all of my opt out tutorials. Please start from the most recent one and work your way backwards to use the newest tutorial for each site. Unfortunately, sites such as whitepages make frequent changes to their opt out methods and older tutorials may become obsolete. If you notice a tutorial that does not work, please let me know so I can write a new one.

Until next time,… Stay Cyber Safe!

Your information on me is incorrect as far as arrest information…you show the wrong person…I have not record!
Please opt me out of your information since it is false.

I am not affiliated with Intelius or with any site that publishes personal data and I do not publish personal information belonging to others on my website therefore your request has come to the incorrect business.

To remove online information, I provide free tutorials on my website. In fact, you left your request as a comment on my Intelius tutorial. If you go back to the tutorial, there are detailed directions for opting out. Hope this helps you. Hayley
